Famous Monuments in India : Agra Fort, Agra- Symbol of Mughal Splendor

Among the various Famous Monuments in India, Agra Fort has its own charm. This beautiful monument attraction is situated on the banks of river Yamuna, northwest of the Taj Mahal. Agra remained the capital of Mughal Empire for long period. In 1556, Akbar became the emperor. He built Agra fort for military base. Akbar was the third Mughal emperor, after the death of his father Humayun he was crowned as the ruler and, after that he started constructing the Agra fort. In the year of 1565 he started constructing and the fort was ready by the year 1571. Additions of the fort were made up until the rule of Shah Jahan, who was Akbar’s grandson. During the time of Akbar, the fort was mainly used for military purpose, while by the time of Shah Jahan it also served as a palace and court. The fort is made up of dark red stones. It is very beautiful and huge monument included in the Famous Monuments in India.

Agra Fort has seen many changes during its life span.  The great Agra fort is listed under the UNESCO world heritage site.  This fort is the fine example of mughal architecture. The Fort is stretches about 2.5 km. This is complex of much structure inside the red walls which are 20 meters in height. Some part of the Agra fort is still used by the Indian Army. This part is not accessible to public, but there are parts of the fort open for public to view how Mughals lived in that era. For a traveler there are so many interesting and beautiful places to see around Agra fort, like Anguri Bagh, Jahangir Mahal, Khass Mahal, and Sheesh Mahal, Diwan-i- Khaas, Diwan-i-Am and lot more. These places are made up of white marbles and red stones. In the initial construction these places are not there.
